On Monday the 11th of August, the CTII Schools visited the Darus Salaam Masjied in Mitchells Plain. They were hosted by Imam Kashief and Imam Abrahams.
Pippa Jones was out of town, and between the teachers, local imams and our youth leadership the event went very well.

These are reflections from our 3 youth leaders.
Golden
The learners really engaged well and learnt a lot. They appreciated the Imam at the end of the session and strongly appreciated his will to answer all their questions. The Imam showed so much interest and engaged with the students which in all made the session a great success not forgetting the help of the teachers and facilitators.
Ana
It was a joy to share a learning experience with the learners at the Masjied. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly towards all, and the learners behaved with respect and kindness towards Imam, coordinators, teachers and towards each other. They took in as much information as they could and worked well in their teams while creating their short presentations.

We would like to start by saying that this is the hope and change we’ve all been wanting. The tension between Judaism and Islam has been rising in Cape Town. On Monday the 11th of August, we had a session which we were glad to be part of.
We went to a mosque out in Mitchell’s Plain and one of the schools that came were a Jewish school. When they first came in you could feel there was worry and you could see it too. As the imam explained how we go about our religion and what the big misconceptions about Islam was, they loosened up a bit and asked questions.
While they asked questions, you could see them smiling more and you could just see a weight being lighter and we thought that was amazing. While they asked questions, both religions realised how much Judaism and Islam has in common and that was something new that we all learned.

I can see that they’ve gotten out of their shells and they’re so bright and they’ve got amazing ideas. They have truly grown a lot. I feel as though they will definitely go very far in life with their mindsets.
As young as Golden, Ana and I are now, we feel like an elder or more a role model to them and that is an accomplishment for a lifetime. It’s amazing to know that people are looking up to you and its amazing knowing that one day they will lead you and they will stand in your footsteps and continue their knowledge and add more for the next generation to continue.
