On Tuesday 22 April, 6 CTII members visited the spiritual retreat centre Volmoed, in Hermanus.
The trip was lively with Riaan de Villiers at the wheel. CTII thanks the Groote Kerk for making the minibus available.
The banter between Riaan and Mohammed Groenewald shortened the duration of the trip.
Our first stop was at Zwelihle, where we visited a drum making programme that provides employment, and skills to township youth, and provides them with a meal a day.

We had a drumming session with the young people.

Our next stop was lunch with retired UCT Professor, John de Gruchy at La Vierge Restaurant.

The food was good and the conversation excellent. Prof spoke about the start of his academic career at UCT. He taught Asian philosophy prior to becoming the Protestant struggle theology academic he is well known for. Prof also talked about his life in the ministry and the narrow escapes from the apartheid security branch. Many questions were asked and we are still digesting the answers received.
Our last stop was at Volmoed, a Christian spiritual retreat centre that is open to all faiths.

We took a tour of the grounds and buildings, led by Edwin Arrison. The whole environment is conducive to spiritual practice and the place is highly recommended for groups that may want to use it.

I thoroughly enjoyed our trip with my friends and making new friendships. It was a day well spent.
