On Sunday 7th September I was present at a well attended Interfaith Gathering, at the Baitul Awwal Masjied, hosted by Lajna Ima’illah South Africa, Ahmadiyya Women’s Association, whose primary focus is on the education and spiritual enlightenment of women and girls.
Four speakers of different faiths spoke to the topic “Empowering Women Through Religion”.
We heard of the strength and courage of many women named out of our different religious texts, standing up for justice. That all women have compassionate, nurturing, loving, caring, homemaking amongst other abilities we should use.
The Ahmadiyya muslim group being the first generations ago to free their women allowing education, home ownership, marriage, divorce on equal terms with men. We all have individual gifts we should cherish and use not waiting to be told we are good, but to know we all have beauty and goodness
Through our different faith practices, meditation, scripture understanding we are strengthened and empowered, and should set an example in community, and society.
This was followed by much interaction over refreshments.
