3 Dialogues – Sustainability

The 2nd session of our 3 Dialogues series, on “Sustainability”, was held at Turquoise Harmony Institute in Cape Town on the 2nd July 2025. Geordie Ractliffe, a freshwater scientist and activist, and co-founder of the “Sustainability Matters” NGO, spoke alongside Sheik Ismail Keraan, a long-time community spiritual leader of Al Azhar Mosque at the heart of the District Six community.

Mid-winter Interfaith Walk: Ubuntu and Compassion

This past Saturday 21st June, despite being the heart of winter, we were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day for our walk on the Table Mountain contour paths from Constantia Nek, which proved to be a resounding success. The event, themed “Ubuntu and Compassion”, was filled with moments of reflection, shared compassion, and community spirit.

3 dialogues – Equality

The first of 3 dialogues on Equality, Sustainability and Solidarity took place last night at Turquoise Harmony Institute in Rondebosch. Together with the CTII, these events are series of participatory gatherings as contributions towards the G20 Interfaith Forum and the National Dialogue.

While not officially requested by these organisations, it was a grassroots effort to highlight the pertinent themes declared by the G20 IF, and the first event dealt with Equality.

The Schools at the Shul

Monday 19th May was the Youth Programme’s fifth session for the Grade 10s. We
were warmly welcomed by the custodian of the Obs Mowbray Shul, Marc Turok, who
brought the space alive to the learners, sharing stories of the local Orthodox
community and of the Shul itself, which has been in existence since 1927.

Marc’s passion and devotion were palpable and contagious. He masterfully drew a personal and complex picture of the many facets of Jewish tradition and worship. For several of the 40 learners who come from such diverse religions, traditions and backgrounds, this was their first time of being inside a Jewish holy space. And the questions kept coming! They were eager to know more about the symbols, the Hebrew writing, the rituals, and the tenets of Judaism.
