As the CTII community, we’d like to congratulate our friends at SAFCEI (Southern African Faith Communities’ Environmental Institute) on their celebration of 20 years of bringing faith communities together to care for people and the planet. We know that our faith traditions point us to care and protect the Earth, and our voices and actions are even greater when we collaborate across faith traditions.
“SAFCEI is a multi-faith environmental justice organisation that actively supports faith leaders and their communities to take action for a just and sustainable future.” – safcei.org
On the 25th Aug, SAFCEI hosted a small and intimate celebration, honouring the journey and work of SAFCEI for the last 20 years, with vision and purpose for the next twenty.

In particular it was very special to honour the vision and dedication of founder Bishop Geoff Davies and his wife Kate Davies, who started SAFCEI as a ‘retirement project’ with a deep calling for how our faith communities can be stewards of Earth protection and advocacy.

Since then the organization has grown to lead several campaigns advocating for energy and climate justice, as well as food and animal justice. SAFCEI also leads a training programme for faith leaders in environmental justice, which in the last year reached over 200 faith leaders across Southern Africa.
CTII has collaborated with SAFCEI through our schools programme, and we are looking forward to continue to walk alongside and grow the work of interfaith collaboration and action together.
